and why we chose to support Merry Mixers

At Bobbie Bush Photography, we have strong ties to North Shore Medical Center, as there are two wings at Salem Hospital which feature permanent installations of our portrait artwork.

A permanent installation of baby and children’s portrait work by Bobbie is on display at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA, on the walls of the newly renovated Special Care Nursery and at The Birthplace at NSMC.

What to wear for your portraits

The short answer is, it depends on your style.

The long answer is that while we often recommend classic solids for our portraits, we do encourage you to have some fun with our valentines theme ‘Portraits from the Heart’.

For our shorter studio sessions like this fundraiser event, a brighter bolder color palette can be loads of fun, especially for the little ones. You are welcome to go with a valentines theme of pinks and reds and some patterns, or easter colors like pastels and pale blues.

Alternatively, you may wish to follow a more classic look — which is honestly one our favorite looks — since it never ever goes out of style! For this we encourage wearing simple solids in classic tones like khaki & blue, or you can go more formal, such as party dresses for girls, or tweed jackets or sweater vests with with dress pants for boys. For siblings, it’s best to coordinate the color palette, but they do not have to match.

Generally speaking, it is recommended to avoid super busy patterns, logos, words and overly large designs on your clothing.

We want you to be comfortable! Choose fabrics that stretch or move easily whether you are standing or seated. Medium to darker tones contrast nicely to your skin tone in order to accentuate the faces in the portrait.

Probably one of the best sources of classic clothing for babies and children under 3 years, is Janie & Jack. For older kids and adults, you can never go wrong with the classic look of Ralph Lauren. They even have clothing lines for babies and children.

How do I register?

We request that you secure your time with personal check in the amount of $50 made payable to ‘Merry Mixers’. Your $50 donation will reserve your time slot for a 30 minute studio portrait session during the month of February.

How long will you spend with us?

Each session is 30 minutes. In that time, we will capture a variety of images, using a single, simple backdrop. We ask that you be on time and arrive no earlier than 10-15 minutes in advance of your session, as we can often have a full schedule with other families scheduled just before your session time.

When will I get to see my photos from the session?

Approximately one week following your session, we invite you into the studio to review all of your images, assist you in making your selections and to place your order. We recommend that all of the decision makers are present at the time of the ordering appointment. We are happy to accommodate you in the early evening for these appointments.

What should I expect to spend on my portraits?

It’s entirely up to you how much you decide to invest in from your session, choosing from our gift portraits, framed wall art pieces, gallery wraps or custom hardcover books & albums. We’ll also have a handful of special packages available as well! We offer personal, gift & desk sized portraits which range from $65 to $195. Our signature hand-finished wall art pieces are priced from $350 and can be as large as life-sized.

Can we bring the dog?

Yes, of course. We do, however, caution you against bringing a younger puppy-age pet that does not easily follow your commands. Given that the portrait sessions are only 30 minutes long, we want to make the most of your time and focus on creating the best portraits possible. As long as your pet is a mature well-trained dog, a pet can be a great addition to your child’s portrait.
