Summer Paintings
This summer has been filled with work, play and painting! The summer of 2018 has been one of learning, exploring and expanding my craft into the realm of painted images and expanding my role in the creative process as an artist.
Nature’s Beauty
I wanted to share some recent personal work that I have done that is derived from the photographs I capture when I am in my downtime. Being an avid kayaker, I often capture images of natures beauty while out on the ocean. These paintings are from my experiences on the coast of Maine where I often spend time.
The Creative Process
The creative process begins with a photographic image as the initial inspiration, then further transforms through hand-applied brushwork using an electronic pen and tablet to render the colors, tones and detail stroke by stroke into a painting. The final step in the process is to apply real oils and acrylics to the surface of the canvas to give depth, color and texture for the look and feel of a finished painting.
Working with Oils
After 20+ years of the business of photography, I am finding time to play in a new medium, blending my photographic images and transforming them into painted works of art. In June, I embarked on a week-long intensive workshop in Louisiana to study with a master artist and photographer to learn painting methods, using the digital medium in combination with real oils.
Painting Inspiration
I have been inspired by the Impressionists Monet, Degas, Renoir, master portrait painters like John Singer Sargent, as well as modern portrait painters like Everett Raymond Kinstler.
